Zeitgeist Composer Workshop is a five-day workshop designed to give emerging composers the opportunity to develop creative ideas and stretch their artistic boundaries in an environment that celebrates exploration and experimentation. In the workshop, the focus is not on the completion of a composition but rather on the generation and development of ideas and the exploration of musical possibilities. Each composer brings sketches of material to develop using Zeitgeist as a "laboratory." The workshop culminates in an informal performance, giving composers the opportunity to receive feedback from audience members.

Zeitgeist selects three composers each year to participate in our Zeitgeist Composer Workshop; we work with composers living in Minnesota who aren’t currently enrolled in a degree program. Participation is through invitation only; there is no application process specifically for this program. However, Zeitgeist is dedicated to continually increasing our awareness of composers who create the music of our time. We encourage composers interested in working with us in any capacity to send perusal scores and recordings representative of recent work (we return materials if a SASE is included).

The next workshop takes place in July 2009.
