Duluth composer Kathy McTavish discusses her immersive sound and video installation HOLE IN THE SKY ahead of its presentation at Northern Spark 2017. HOLE IN THE SKY is a collaboration between Zeitgeist and McTavish featuring electronic and acoustic music, video, and an interactive exhibition. HOLE IN THE SKY immerses the audience in a dynamical system of friction, resilience and change. HOLE IN THE SKY is a planetary prayer : a sonic howl : a coded torrent : a testimony : a resistance.

Kathy McTavish is a cellist/composer/multimedia artist. Her work combines improvisation, code, visual imagery, and non-linear storytelling and poetry to create sensual, multi-layered works capable of being experienced in the concert hall or as installations.

Lowertown Listening Sessions invite curious listeners to enjoy adventurous sounds and insightful conversation with the music-makers of our time. Held at Studio Z, Zeitgeist’s performance space in Lowertown St. Paul, this monthly happy hour series brings guest artists from all genres of new music (jazz, classical, world music, folk, and more) for performances and informal discussion in an after-work setting with food and beverages from Lowertown eateries.

This installment of Lowertown Listening Sessions is one of Zeitgeist’s Early Music Workshop. Zeitgeist Early Music Workshop is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
