SUMMER RAIN: Music by Nirmala Rajasekar and Shruthi Rajasekar

A blend of Indian Classical music (Carnatic tradition) and Western classical new music, SUMMER RAIN features music developed and performed by Zeitgeist and composer/veena virtuoso Nirmala Rajasekar and composer Shruthi Rajasekar.
 
Works presented will include Summer Rain, Thillana Shuffle, and Sublime Journey by Nirmala Rajasekar and Morning Dew, Dots, and Vayu by Shruthi Rajasekar. Performers will include Zeitgeist and Nirmala Rajasekar, veena and voice.


TABLE with SOD HOUSE THEATER

The TABLE has always been the most important place to connect family and friends. The food we eat there tells us who we are and who we were. Join Sod House Theater in their latest family friendly experiential event created by Sarah Agnew, along with Kimberly Richardson, Elise Langer, Maren Ward, Delvina Logeais, Tessa Dahlgren and Emma Bauer with music composed by Eric Jensen and performed by Simone Perrin. 
 
TABLE will feature farm fresh food supplied by Barringer Family Farms, Oxheart Farms, Rising Sun Farm and Orchard, Udder Hills Meats, and Warm Springs Farm prepared by local chefs. Join us at the TABLE for an evening of feasting, fellowship, song and shenanigans while you are taken good care of by the most entertaining catering crew in the tri-state area.

MUSICAL LANDSCAPES: New works by Todd Harper

Composer, improvisor, and painter Todd Harper centers the natural world and ecology in his artistic practice. This past summer, he has been creating a trio of water color graphic scores inspired by time spent on the grounds of Barringer Family Farms. The paint is now dry and we're ready to play them. Come join us for this colorful premiere!

Douglas Ewart's Sonic Tops

Douglas Ewart’s Sonic Tops will gather musicians, poets, artists, and community members together to engage in music-making, performance art, and conversation in both indoor and outdoor spaces at The Northside Healing Space in North Minneapolis, located at 2100 Emerson Avenue North. The event will be free to the public and will have activities for both participating and observing.​

Music of Douglas Ewart
May 12-13, 7:30 p.m. at Studio Z
Zeitgeist presents a portrait concert featuring award-winning and widely-acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Douglas R. Ewart. Best known as a composer, improviser, sculptor and maker of masks and instruments, Douglas R. Ewart weaves his remarkably broad gifts into a single sensibility that encourages and celebrates the wholeness of individuals in culturally active communities. ​

A Murmur in the Trees at Gustavus Adolphus College Arboretum
April 22, 2023 at 5 p.m.
Zeitgeist presents an outdoor performance of Eve Beglarian's A Murmur in the Trees in the Gustavus Adolphus College Arboretum in St. Peter, MN. Composer Eve Beglarian was inspired by an Emily Dickinson poem and a piece of birch bark to create A Murmur in the Trees, a 30-minute work that features 24 double bass players spread throughout a grove of trees.

Gong-Bathing inside NORTH exhibition

Join Zeitgeist percussionist Heather Barringer for a guided Gong Bathing Meditation, taking place within the NORTH installation at the Anderson Center’s brand-new untitled gallery. “Bathe” in the healing vibrations of sound while immersed in the beautiful imagery of Mary Ellen Childs’s multimedia NORTH installation. Please register in advance.

A new installation work by Mary Ellen Childs in collaboration with visual artist Lindsy Halleckson and videographer Tamara Ober. Based on the stark winter environment of the Arctic, NORTH combines recorded music performed by Zeitgeist, abstract paintings in winter hues, projected imagery of northern snowscapes, and sculptural elements to create an immersive environment in which to consider our northernmost lands and their connection to all of us wherever we live.

Studio Z Presents: Music of Joshua Musikantow

Studio Z presents an evening of music by adventurous Twin Cities composer Joshua Musikantow, featuring Zeitgeist performing selections from Flare, which sets texts written by the composer, and vocal excerpts from Yiddish is My Homeland, a new work for string quartet and two voices, featuring vocalists Alyssa Anderson and Justin Spenner singing poetry by first generation Jewish American authors.

Zeitgeist and Cleveland-based No Exit New Music Ensemble continue their long-standing, cross-country collaboration with joint concerts in Ohio and Minnesota. 

Early Music Festival: Alvin Lucier
Nov. 17-20, 2022 
A co-production of Zeitgeist and 113 Composer Collective, Zeitgeist’s 2022 Early Music Festival explores the powerful contributions of our musical pioneers with a celebration of composer Alvin Lucier. Since the 1960's Lucier's work has reshaped the way we think about sound with music and sound installations that explore acoustic phenomena and auditory perception.

Zeitgeist Halloween Festival 2022
Oct. 27-29, 2022
Zeitgeist's Halloween Festival at Studio Z features three evenings of haunting sounds, bone-chilling new commissions, and spine-tingling storytelling centered on the theme of "Monsters Among Us." Performances will include the world premiere of new chamber works for Zeitgeist by DeVon Russell Gray, Isaac Mayhew, and Stephanie Henry, storytelling curated by Nothando Zulu, and musical performances by RenegadeEnsemble, DeVon Russel Gray, and others.

No Exit Online Concert
Oct. 14, 2022 at 8 p.m.
No Exit New Music Ensemble is kicking off their 14th concert season with an online concert production infused with their signature visual style. The ensemble will be joined by frequent collaborators Shuai Wang, performing Stephen Dembski’s exquisite and powerful solo piano work Alta, and Zeitgeist presenting the world premiere of Primary Call, a new piece by composer Nasim Khorassani. Completing the program, No Exit will perform Per Norgaard’s haunting and all too timely Night Descending written for string quartet and featuring special guest violinist Mari Sato. Join us for this unique online concert experience!
