ZEITGEIST

PERFORMING THE MUSIC OF OUR TIME

2007-2008 Season
30th Anniversary Season

Glancing Back
June 13-15, 2007

Featuring beloved gems from our past by Terry Riley, Frederic Rzewski, & John Cage. Special solo piano performance by Zeitgeist alumnus Tom Linker on June 14

Charging Forward
June 20-22, 2007

A true Minnesota celebration featuring the world premieres of no less than thirty new works (150 seconds each) by Minnesota composers! A Minnesota Sesquicentennial event.

Myth, Magic, & Lumination
March 7-16, 2008

With our “spring” concert, Zeitgeist will present a collection of works that will delve into man’s need to explore and explain the physical and metaphysical world about and within us. We’ll be featuring no less than two world premieres, including Pure Pleasure, a new snare drum solo by Scott Miller written for Zeitgeist percussionist Patti Cudd, and Edie Hill’s new work for the entire ensemble, Spark!, a musical exposition on the nature of light. Also inspired by light, Jerome Kitzke’s In Bone Colored Light is a rollicking, jubilant celebration of the healing property of late-afternoon light. Pamela Madsen’s Sedna is a haunting work inspired by the Inuit tale of a young maiden, Sedna, who is sacrificed to the sea to create whales, otters, seals, and all other sorts of sea mammals. Continuing with water and creation imagery, Into the River by Ivo Medek, is an evocative new work discovered by the ensemble on our fall tour to the Czech Republic. Come join us! We promise a musical experience sure to shake off our winter doldrums and embrace the renewing power of early spring.

Playing It Close to Home
